Abstract

Our homeland has long been a coveted target for adversaries due to its strategic position along the Silk Road. Over the centuries, it has endured numerous invasions, lost and regained its statehood, and experienced destruction followed by rebirth, akin to a phoenix rising from the ashes. The earthquake of 1988, coupled with the first Artsakh war, created a period of instability, leading to significant emigration, which has since become a pressing issue for our state and the Armenian nation. Numerous studies indicate that factors such as wartime conditions, distrust of the government, perceptions of injustice, and a lack of adequate employment opportunities contribute to elevated migration rates. The war of 2023 and the subsequent forced displacement of Artsakh citizens have exacerbated these conditions, providing a catalyst for increased emigration.

This article presents research conducted on forcibly displaced Artsakh citizens, examining their social conditions, migration intentions, and current concerns. The analysis highlights that the primary challenges faced by these displaced individuals are related to housing and employment. To address these issues, the study explores the experiences of other countries and proposes potential solutions.
