GENOCIDE IN MARC LEVY’S NOVEL “THE STRANGE JOURNEY OF MR. DALDRY”

Abstract

The present article touches upon the well-known contemporary French writer Marc Levy’s life and literary career, especially upon his novel «The Strange Journey of Mr. Daldry». Here the writer describes a wonderful touching story adverting to the issue of the Armenian Genocide. Following the fortune-teller’s predictions Alice, the heroine of the novel, who was a talented perfumer, made a long journey to Turkey where she met her soul mate and there she discovered the real story of her life. Her real name was Anush, she was an Armenian descendent whose parents had been victims of the Genocide.

The article shows the literary beliefs of the French humanist writer, his conviction in the significance of the writer’s responsibility and the maintenance of universal values, his attitude towards all kinds of violence and massacre.
